In a scathing open letter, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, National Converner of The Old PDP, has criticized the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for its handling of recent controversies involving Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State.
Ufomba expressed dismay at Wike's public outbursts against the party leadership, describing them as "a disgrace to the principles and discipline that our party stands for." He also condemned Wike's use of "vitriolic language" against the BOT Chairman and fellow party members, branding them as "vampires."
The letter, dated August 22, 2024, urged the PDP leadership to enforce its disciplinary rules with an "iron fist" to prevent further indiscipline and unity within the party. Ufomba warned that the party risks losing responsible members to other parties if it fails to act decisively.
He also alluded to Wike's role in the party's failure to provide credible leadership in the 2023 elections, stating that "we knew ab-initio of the evil machination to destroy the party."
Ufomba called for a return to the party's founding principles, citing the 1999 era, and emphasized the need for unity not just within the PDP but also with allies in other opposition parties.
The letter has sparked debate within the party, with some members calling for swift action against Wike and others defending his right to free speech.
The PDP leadership has yet to respond to Ufomba's letter, but the issue is expected to dominate discussions at the party's next national convention.
