Berom Youths Moulders-Association(BYM), have asked the Federal Government of Nigeria for legal and restorative action concerning victims of attacks on some villages and communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas in the interest of justice, redemption and compassion for citizens and humanity.

The call was contained in a letter addressed to VICE PRESIDENT, Yemi Osinbajo and jointly signed by  the Movement's National President, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, (Esq) and Secretary General, Bature Iliya Adazaram, which is meant to remind the FG of it's  ₦10 Billion  welfare and rehabilitation fund for the affected families and survivors to be released through the State Government in order to bring relief and succor to the people which BYM said, those communities are yet to receive any form of such interventions.

Sir,

GENTLE REMINDER FOR THE RELEASE OF   ₦10 BILLION PROMISED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA TO VICTIMS OF ATTACKS AND KILLINGS IN BARKIN LADI AND RIYOM LGAs.

The Berom Youths Moulders-Association(BYM) is an incorporated entity in Nigeria that has, as its major objective, the organization and development of young people and youths in Berom Land for the purpose of unity, progress and peaceful coexistence. 

It is on this mandate that, the association has considered it imperative to write your Excellency in regard to its members and associates who continue to suffer immensely from the unrelenting attacks on some villages and communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.

Your Excellency, you may wish to recall that, following the attacks meted out against villages of Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State on 23rd -24th days of June, 2018, you visited the State to commensurate with the State Government and, indeed, the survivors of the massacre that resulted in the loss of over 200 people, destruction of property worth millions of naira as well as the displacements of over 17,000 people. 

While on that visit, Sir, you were briefed by the State Governor and also had a direct engagement with leaders of the affected communities.

In your assessment and response to the situation, you did not only condemn the killings and destruction, but also promised that justice would be meted out to those responsible for their “horrible” and “heinous” crimes.

 Furthermore, you assured community leaders that the  ₦10 Billion approved by the Federal Government for welfare and rehabilitation of the affected families and survivors would be released through the State Government in order to bring relief and succor to the people.

 In addition, Your Excellency, the stationing of a permanent Mobile Police Squadron as well as the increase deployment of security agents to the general area were some of the security measures you directed.

Unfortunately Sir, since June 2018 when you visited the State to-date, the affected communities and villages are yet to receive or experience any of the actions you promised either directly from the Federal Government or through any agency of the State. Rather, the affected communities have been relegated to further acts of criminality while their living conditions continue to worsen. 

The purpose of this gentle reminder, therefore, is to humbly update you on the situation on ground as well as to plead for your kind and urgent intervention to rescue the people from the continuous reign of terror, intimidation and increasing impoverishment imposed on them by the enemies of peace who are bent on capturing and dominating territories.

It is the firm belief of Berom Youth Moulders-Association that, without your urgent intervention for the release of the funds and implementation of other security measures at such a time as this when the country’s political temperature is warming-up towards general elections, come 2023, both survivors and the displaced persons from the 2018 attacks and more would be completely forgotten and their plights continue to diminish for the worse.

 Therefore, Your Excellency, ours is a “Save Our Souls” (SOS) plea for legal and restorative justice, redemption and compassion for citizens and, indeed, humanity.
